Story
Rex was found in a shantytown, where he was surviving in very precarious conditions. During his wandering, he was attacked by another dog and arrived at the association with a significant wound on his thigh. Fortunately, he was taken in and treated. Today, his injuries are a thing of the past, and he is gradually discovering a calmer life. Like many street-raised dogs, everything is still new to him. Despite this difficult start in life, Rex has maintained an incredible kindness and makes new progress every day.
Behavior
Rex is an extremely affectionate dog, close to humans and very pleasant to live with. When meeting new people, he can be a little shy and reserved in the first few days. This reaction is quite normal: he is not used to being around many strangers. Once he trusts, he reveals a gentle, joyful, and affectionate character. He likes to stay close to his humans and responds immediately when called. He enjoys petting, but in his own way: after a few minutes, he often prefers to go play or explore before returning for a new moment of affection. He is a just enough independent dog, who enjoys company without constantly demanding it. Rex loves to play, both with his humans and his toys. He has a preference for plush toys, which he carries and chews enthusiastically. Outdoor play is also among his favorite activities. Regarding other dogs, Rex plays with young Melba, with whom everything goes very well. He enjoys interactions and play sessions, even if they can sometimes be a bit rough. He plays more like a "big rougher" than out of aggression. However, even if interactions are currently going very well with other dogs, it is important to remember that Rex was attacked by another dog, so introductions to new canine companions should always be done with respect and gentleness. Walking on a leash is still a learning process for him. Rex does not pull strongly, but tends to want to explore his environment by going in all directions. He understands very quickly: when we stop, he refocuses quickly, and after a few minutes of walking, he becomes more attentive. With some practice, he should quickly develop good habits. On a daily basis, Rex is an easy dog to live with. He does not seem to bark when left alone in his outdoor space and simply enjoys the presence of his caregivers. He is a balanced companion who is gradually learning the rules of life. However, since Maxton is currently living at the shelter, it will be necessary to plan for training regarding absences and living in a house, which will need to be done. He is also currently house-trained in his kennel. Regarding training, he still has much to learn, but he shows a good capacity for adaptation and a real willingness to cooperate. With positive reinforcement, patience, and kindness, Rex will undoubtedly become a wonderful life companion. Rex is a dog that easily touches the hearts of those who meet him. Behind his initial shyness lies a joyful, tender, and deeply kind dog, who only asks for one thing: to finally find a family that will offer him stability and love he has never truly known.
